Best Free Zones in Dubai Compared: IFZA, Meydan, DMCC & More
There's no single 'best' free zone — only the best one for your business. Here's an honest head-to-head on cost, credibility, activities and banking odds.
Dubai has more than 20 free zones, and every consultant will tell you theirs is "the best". The truth is simpler: there's no single best free zone — only the best fit for your activity, budget and banking needs. Here's an honest comparison of the ones founders ask about most.
The quick verdict
- Lowest cost + speed: IFZA, Meydan
- Banking credibility + prestige: DMCC, DIFC
- Logistics & industry: JAFZA, DAFZA
- Tech & media clusters: Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Internet/Media City
IFZA — the volume leader
IFZA is one of Dubai's most cost-competitive zones, built around a network of registered agents. It's a default entry point for consultants, e-commerce and trading SMEs who want a low upfront cost, up to three activities on one licence, and a fast digital setup. Indicative licences start around AED 12,900. If price and speed top your list, IFZA is hard to beat.
Meydan — prestige address, remote setup
Meydan Free Zone offers a central Dubai address near Downtown and a fully online setup, at pricing that competes directly with IFZA (indicatively from ~AED 12,500). It's popular with agencies, consultants and overseas founders who want a recognisable address without visiting the UAE.
DMCC — credibility and banking
DMCC is Dubai's largest and most awarded free zone, and a global hub for commodities. It costs more (realistic first-year all-in often AED 35,000–65,000), but you're paying for reputation, a mature ecosystem and materially better odds when opening a bank account. If banking credibility matters — or you trade commodities — DMCC earns its premium.
How to actually choose
Ask three questions in order:
- What's my activity? It dictates which zones even support you (and your banking risk profile).
- How important is banking and address? If very, lean toward DMCC/DIFC. If not, IFZA/Meydan save you money.
- Do I need to be near customers or logistics? Industrial and trade businesses should look at JAFZA and DAFZA.
Beware the "cheapest zone" trap: a rock-bottom licence that gets your bank application rejected costs far more in lost weeks than you saved on the licence.

Frequently asked questions
01Which free zone is best for a consultancy in Dubai?+
For consultancies, IFZA and Meydan are popular for low cost and fast remote setup, while DMCC adds banking credibility and prestige at a higher price. The right choice depends on budget and how important banking approval and address are.
02Which Dubai free zone is cheapest?+
Among Dubai-based zones, IFZA and Meydan have the lowest advertised entry points. If you'll consider the northern emirates, SHAMS, SPC and Ajman go lower still — but weigh cost against banking credibility.
